Those pricey creams don't actually work as well as the ingredients you have right in your own home and that's because they also contain a slew of necessary ingredients which are actually bad for your skin. All of the remedies below work very well, but of course, you'll have to do some experimenting to see which works best for you. So here are 8 remedies to cure dark spots.

8 Ways to Cure Dark Spots

#1. Water

This one is a no-brainer but most of us don't actually drink 8 glasses of water a day. It's extremely important to constantly stay hydrated, especially in the hot summer months, because water is oh-so important in the cell-renewal process. So before you try out any of the remedies below, start by drinking your 8 glasses a day!

#2. Lemon

Lemon has long been attributed to lightening of the skin and hair (remember the good old teenage days when we'd squeeze lemon into our hair?). Just squeeze a small amount of lemon juice onto the affected areas and leave on for about 15 minutes.

#3. Raw Potato

Simply rub a raw potato onto the affected area. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and rinse off with cold water. The potato contains bleaching properties which are excellent at reducing the appearance of dark spots.

#4. Apple Cider Vinegar

As if apple cider vinegar wasn't already the hero of all home remedies, it also acts as an amazing dark spot eraser. Mix equal parts water with equal parts ACV and apply to affected areas using a cotton ball. You can leave it on all day, overnight, or just for 20 minutes before rinsing off.

#5. Turmeric

Turmeric has been used widely for different beauty regimens, and it just never stops! Mix turmeric with a little bit of water and honey to make a mask-like consistency. Apply to affected areas or over entire face and neck and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Not only does turmeric lighten the skin, but it also exfoliates and gets rid of oxidants.

#6. Strawberries and Oranges

Not only will this mask smell delicious, but it will also leave you with an amazing glow and reduce the appearance of dark spots. Start by mashing a few strawberries in a bowl and then squeezing an orange on top. Mix it all up until it forms a paste-like consistency. Apply to entire face and neck and leave on for 15-20 minutes. The seeds in the strawberries also acts as a natural exfoliant, while the orange lightens dark spots.

#7. Milk, Honey, & Yogurt

The combination of milk or yogurt with honey is a truly amazing one. Honey has a slew of benefits including anti-bacterial, and, combined with milk or honey make the perfect dark spot reducer.

#8. Tomato

Tomatoes act as a natural bleaching agent, much like potatoes do. Simply slice a tomato in half, and rub one half over your face. Leave on for 15 minutes, rinse off, and follow up with a moisturizer.
